Yesterday your mother and I spent all day outdoors at a park with our good friends Harald and Jeanne, along with their two kids, and one of their childrens’ friends. It was a wonderful day.
When you work all day from a computer, like I must do, it is easy to forget how wonderful time spent outdoors can be. It changes you, mind, and body, for the better. Sun and fresh air away from the noise and distractions of the city are the best medicine in the world.
When I was young, my parents took me camping every other weekend in the Summers. We would canoe, fish, play games, hike, even just read outdoors. It helped me learn to be more creative. To defeat boredom by exploring or creating. And it let me learn how beautiful and joyous the world really is.
I plan on doing the same for you. In fact, your mother and I are planning your first trips out to campgrounds and parks already. Because we know that time spent active and outdoors will make you happier and healthier. And it is also why I want to limit your time around screens: they keep you stuck inside, mentally even if you are not actually indoors. They are a distraction from a world full of fun and beauty.
